Today, we ponder God’s covenant with Abram. Abram has several doubts. Can he trust God? And, can he trust himself? Using an ancient near eastern ritual, God declares and seals his relationship with Abram and answers Abram’s doubts. Through this story, we see that our relationship with God is not dependent upon earning or deserving his favor, but upon the work of Jesus on the cross. God’s covenant with Abram foreshadows the work of Jesus on the cross.
