What are those words at the end of a church service? “The Lord bless you and keep you?”
Is it simply a wonderful wish? Or does God give something to His people? One thing is for sure, the people attending the service pause reverently, some extend hands, others bow their heads, but all go quiet, pay attention, and sense a special moment goes with those holy biblical words. Today we learn what the benediction or blessing at the end of a worship service is and what it does.
Last week, we discovered the beauty of the greeting used in old school worship “grace and peace” and how that greeting was the “Hello” of the early Christians in the midst of the turbulence of persecution. This week, we reflect on the wonder of the blessing/benediction that concludes a worship service.
