We are drilling down, down, down into this parable about a Prodigal God whose grace is extravagant. We are also learning not only that God’s grace brings individual results to believers, but also how the grace of God affects relationships with each other, and turns us into a unique community – a rare society called the church. Today, we consider sonship. The father exclaims, “My son was dead . . . but is now alive again!“ In that exclamation, he bestows sonship, in spite of the son’s plan to earn it.
